Over 1,200 people attended the grand re-opening celebration for the historic Brilliant Suspension Bridge on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010. The festivities were planned to coincide with the 63rd Annual USCC Doukhobor Union of Youth Festival at the Brilliant Cultural Centre in Castlegar. Several speeches by First Nations Representatives, local and provincial delegates, entertainment from the Vision of Peace Youth Choir and local school age children, were the first part of the opening ceremony held at the Centre. Sponsors of the Bridge had an opportunity to say a few words and were recognized for their incredible support of this project. The restoration committee was identified and thanked for their tremendous vision and perseverance in seeing this project to fruition.

A procession to the bridge was followed by acknowledgements to Lawrence Makortoff, chair of the restoration committee, Gordon Zaitsoff area J Director and Barry McGinn from McGinn Engineering and Preservation Ltd. for outstanding contribution to this project by Jim Crockett, manager of the Castlegar & District Recreation Centre and project manager for the bridge restoration. After a performance by the Doukhobor Men’s Tri-Choir the official ribbon cutting by official representatives took place. Ribbon-cutting honours were given to USCC president J. J. Verigin and his mother, Laura P. Verigin.

The Bridge will now serve as a key attraction for Castlegar and district. We've prepared the following directory as a virtual record of this memorable and historic event.
